Admissions Policy

MAP is an assessment created by Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA), a global not-for-profit educational services organization based in the USA. It is a diagnostic assessment, designed to measure a student’s proficiency relative to other students of the same age who have also taken the MAP assessment. 

• A student will need to take the MAP assessment under the following conditions:
  • Any student coming from a homeschooling program prior to enrollment
  • Any student who does not speak English as their primary language
  • Any student who attended a school where English was not the primary language of instruction

Students in Elementary School are eligible to receive English Language Development (ELD) services during the school day. This may be in the form of being pulled out of class to work individually or in small groups with a license ELD teacher, or the ELD teacher may push into the classroom to provide language support. Elementary students in the ELD program will be evaluated with the WIDA Model to determine their level of needed support.

Students in Middle School whose English proficiency is low will be accepted on a case by case basis. Middle School students may be able to receive academic support during one academic period during the day, but they should have a foundational grasp of the English language. We do not offer extensive language support for Middle School students, so it is important for any student with limited English to pursue language support outside of school. 

Students in High School who do not meet English proficiency expectations will not be accepted. In order for a student to be academically successful in a high school course, they must have a solid grasp of academic English. Any student who has gone through our middle school program and has been receiving academic support due to English proficiency will be re-evaluated before entering 9th grade to determine if they meet the English proficiency requirements. 

Applicants in need of learning support services are considered on a case-by-case basis. The decision to accept and retain a student needing learning support is based on the school’s ability to meet the needs of the student while ensuring the regular classroom environment is maintained. When submitting the initial application, please submit all relevant information:

1. Documentation which includes diagnoses
2. Official evaluations and assessment reports
3. Individual Educational Plan (IEP)
4. Learning Plan (LP)
5. Medical Reports
6. All additional related documentation
7. Any other document requested by the ICSP Admissions Office

Please note that any accommodations, learning needs, or social, emotional, physical, or behavioral issues must be fully disclosed and described in detail in the application for admission. Failure to fully disclose such information at this time may result in the revocation of admission or, if discovered after enrollment, require withdrawal from ICSP.

If a student exhibits signs that they may have an undiagnosed learning or behavioral issue, such as ADHD, ASD, or SLD (specific learning disability), the Learning Support Teacher while compile observations to share with the principal and the parents, and the school may require that the parents seek a professional evaluation in order for the school to continue providing services. This is to ensure that the student is eligible to receive any accommodations or modifications to be successful in school, whether at ICSP or at any other school they may attend. 

Admission to high school is subject to a review of official, certified academic records including report cards or transcripts from the current year and the past three years, supplemental documents (if necessary), and results of assessment required by ICSP. All records should be translated to English. Upon review, the high school principal will determine the school’s capacity in meeting the needs of the student.

High school applicants joining after the start of the semester will have to make up work in order to gain the appropriate credit. Students joining 2-4 weeks after the start of the semester may have to audit the course accordingly. All high school admissions decisions are at  the discretion of the high school principal. 

ICSP takes into consideration the birth date of the student, the system the applicant is transferring from, the grade level most recently completed, and English Language proficiency. For younger students, developmental readiness is also evaluated. The goal is to place students with age-appropriate peers in the next logical step of their curricular path in order to predict a high level of academic and social success. 

ICSP uses September 1 as the cut off date for grade placement. Before September 1, Kindergarten students should turn five years old, first grade students should turn six years old, and so on.
